Big Win at Northern Zone

For the second consecutive Northern Zone Brass Band Contest, Townsville Brass have reaped the rewards for their months of hard work in rehearsal and again becoming the North Queensland Champion Band.


Competing against bands from Cairns, Thuringowa and one band from within their own association, under a handicap system, Townsville Brass were the highest placed band in the overall aggregate. 

The formal part of the contest is conducted over three sections, Own Choice Serious Selection, Hymn Tune and Stage March.  Townsville Brass were victorious in the in the Own Choice selection with a score of 94 out of 100, and also in the Stage March with a score of 49 out of 50.  They also placed third in the Hymn tune section.  The Townsville Brass organisation's second band, Brolga Brass also achieved a third place in the Stage March section of the Competition.

Over the course of the weekend, the bands also competed in an Entertainment Gala concert.  Performing a musical retelling of the fairytale - Cinderella, Townsville Brass' 'Cornetella' won huge acclaim from the crowd and they were awarded the Most Entertaining Band Prize.  The Townsville Brass Percussion Section were also awarded the 'Best Percussion Section' for this performance.

Before all of the band sections were contested on the weekend, the solo and party items competition was held.  Townsville Brass had a number of brave soloists competing on a range if instruments in a range of age Groups.  Results of the in the solo sections were as follows:

Dale Hosking - First in Open Any Instrument Solo
Dale Hosking - First in Open Ballad/Sacred Solo
Jason Curtis - Third in Open Ballad/Sacred Solo
Aiden Barker - Second in Junior Ballad/Sacred Solo
Aiden Braker - Fourth in Under 16 Any Instrument Solo
Krystal Allan - Third in Junior Euphonium Solo
Ashley Baxter - First in Open Percussion Solo
The Ville Brass Quartet - First in Open Ensemble Section

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend of Banding for the Townsville Brass organisation.

Townsville Brass and Brolga Brass still have vacancies for new playing members in both bands.
